Data-driven smart targeting to bolster Europe’s hottest high-tech ecosystem

Brainport Eindhoven is a technology region in which companies, governments and educational institutions work together to create a brighter future. The region has one of the highest patent densities of the world and is home to tech giants like ASML, Philips, NXP and VDL.

Brainport Development represents the high-tech industry in and around Eindhoven, the Netherlands with the goal of constantly strengthening what is already one of the leading high-tech clusters in the world. It does this through fostering innovation, facilitating partnerships and attracting new talent and companies to the region. Although everyone knows the leading names based in the Brainport region, the ecosystem’s biggest strength is probably the supporting supply chain of over 5,000 specialised high-tech manufacturing, software, hardware and design companies, as well as academia and polytechnics.

Tooling and services to boost Brainport Development’s core activity

One of the ways Brainport Development enhances their ecosystem is by using a unique smart targeting methodology for identification of relevant value-added companies for  commercial partnering, research and development or potentially settling in the region. 

To support and accelerate their efforts, Brainport Development was looking for an online platform which could provide a structured digital overview of their ecosystem and help different teams perform thematic searches and analysis of new potential partners. Following a trial period of 3 months, Brainport Development signed a framework contract with Venture IQ for the use of Catalist, our online platform, as well as ad-hoc services for specific project support.

Catalist allows Brainport to apply a custom tagging and collection structure, as well as enabling different internal teams and outside experts to collaborate on the screening of companies. Because Catalist can automatically track relevant industry sources and import companies to create profiles in the database, Brainport can swiftly set up thematic searches and start analysing companies without having to do a lot of manual data entry.
